Gorillaz News: Sunday, June 7, 2020

Gorillaz for Beginners bringing the news as lockdown almost ends.

This week:

Be The Change

George Floyd’s death resulted in a worldwide protest against police brutality and racism. Gorillaz contributed to the Black Lives Matter movement with a new campaign slogan, “Be The Change,” that was printed on a T-shirt and a hoodie for their store. All profits profits go to the Black Curriculum.

The band also launched a webpage with several links to media designed to inform and educate. Be sure to check it out frequently as Gorillaz plan to add more links in the near future.

G-Mix: 14

“Be The Change” was also the theme of the latest G-Mix set. Noteworthy artists in these playlists include Little Simz, Kali Uchis, The Last Emperor & Snoop Dogg.

Record Store Day Confirmed

The vinyl releases of G Sides & D-Sides finally have a new release date, the 29th of August.

G-U Interviews Seye

Gorillaz-Unofficial dropped an interview this week with live band legend, Seye Adelekan. There’s tons of juicy info in this interview so be sure to give it a read!

Murdoc & Russel’s Birthdays

Half of the band had their birthdays this week, resulting in tons of fanart.

The Fate Of Q?

COVID-19 is still a threat, and while businesses are finally reopening and people are returning to work, the music magazine Q might not be so lucky. The lockdown led to a distressing drop in sales, raising the chance of the publication getting axed soon. We still haven’t had the 20th anniversary article that was teased back in February, and Q’s unstable future might result in the article never being published if the worst comes to the worst…

Episode 4 Next Week!

On a much brighter note, Gorillaz announced the collaborator for their next Song Machine episode earlier today; British rapper, Octavian.

The episode is set to be released next week, so stay tuned for updates as they come.
